Mindfulness Meditation

Being mindful means being able to focus our attention on the present moment. Why do we want or need to focus our attention on the present moment? Certain conditions such as depression, anxiety and stress are related to our tendency to live either in the future, wondering what to do next, or because we tend to live in the past… hunted by regrets, grudges, pain or sadness. We sometimes do not like our present, and live longing for what we had, what we could have had, or wishing for a better future in which we could be happier. However, in reality all that we have is our present moment. We only have the now. And this is not a cliché!


We sometimes forget that each day, each moment offers an opportunity to create the life that we want. We might have been hurt; our situation might be complicated; our childhood might have been difficult; there are so many factors that might lead us to believe that we can’t have what we want… but in reality we can. How? By taking a proactive stance and deciding to take control of our own lives.


The practice of Mindfulness is a very powerful tool that can help alleviate the distress caused by painful memories and emotions, intrusive thoughts, cravings and urges, as well as symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. You do not need any special skill or experience, just a willingness to try.


In each session we will cover the attitudes of Mindfulness as taught by Jon Kabat-Zinn. These attitudes are:


No judging

Patience

Beginners Mind

Trust

Not striving

Acceptance

Letting go

Gratitude

Generosity


We currently offer individual sessions, and run a monthly group called Transcending. To learn more about upcoming dates, click here.


Individual sessions might be covered by your insurance as it complements your counselling/psychotherapy treatment for anxiety, depression and stress. Please contact your insurance company to find out if these sessions would be covered as services delivered by a Registered Social Worker.


Counselling fees apply:

Assessment session – 90 minutes, $218 per session

Individual sessions – 60 minutes, $145 per session


Sessions are paid in full by cash, e-transfer or credit card. An official receipt will be issued to be submitted for reimbursement.
