Mindfulness Meditation

Being mindful is the ability of being able to focus on the present moment. Why do we want or need to be in the present moment? Some may ask. Certain conditions such as depression, anxiety and stress are related to our tendency to live either in the future, wondering what we need to do next, or because we tend to live in the past… hunted by regrets, grudges, pain or sadness. We sometimes do not like our present situation, and live longing for what we had, or what we could have had, or just wishing for a better future in which we could be happier. However, in reality all that we have is our present moment. We only have the now. And this is not a cliché!

We sometimes forget that each day, each moment offers an opportunity to create the life that we want. We might have been hurt; our situation might be complicated; our childhood might have been difficult; there are so many factors that might lead us to believe that we can’t have what we want… but in reality we can. How? By taking a proactive stance and deciding to take control of our own lives.

The practice of mindfulness meditation is a very powerful tool that can help you get more clarity about what you want, and how to get it. It can also help you heal any emotional pain; overcome cravings; manage intrusive thoughts and urges, as well as symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. You do not need any special skill or experience. It involves practicing some exercises that will teach your mind and brain to focus in the present moment. It is like learning a safe and soothing way to press a “reset” button in your mind and brain when you are too overwhelmed, spacey, sad, angry or anxious.

In each session we will cover the attitudes of Mindfulness Meditation as taught by Jon Kabat-Zinn. We will discuss how these principles apply to our meditation practice, to our lives and to the way we see and treat ourselves. As you learn to see your life, particular situation or condition from a mindful perspective, you will gain a deeper insight of what you need and over time a sense of control.

These attitudes are:

No judging

Patience

Beginners Mind

Trust

Not striving

Acceptance

Letting go

Start by asking yourself – how would these principles apply to my daily life... to the way I see and treat myself... to the way I see and treat others... to the way I perceive my life and particular condition or situation?

We will also cover other topics according to each person’s interests and needs, for example, how to mindfully deal with your emotions, how to overcome procrastination, how to deal with symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress, and so much more.

We offer both, individual sessions and a monthly group. To learn more about Transcending, our meditation group, click here.
